The three witches in Macbeth are introduced right at the beginning of the play. This indicates to me that Shakespeare is trying to portray that they are a powerful force in the play from the start and that they play a major and influential role in the play. They tell Macbeth three prophecies. That Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor, Thane of Glamis and King. These prophecies introduce Macbeth to ideas of greatness. The three witches add an element of supernatural and prophecy to the play, and they each have a familiar, such as Graymalkin and Paddock. They are described as having beards but looking vaguely human. I believe they are inhuman creatures, neither man or woman, but 'instruments of darkness.' These three "secret, black, and midnight hags", hardly distinguishable as humans, serve a huge dramatic part in the play. The role of the three weird sisters in the play is to generate imagery, mood, and atmosphere and to serve as the reason that will bring Macbeth, Thane of Glamis, to his downfall.

The witches can foretell the future, they add temptation, and influence Macbeth, but they cannot control his destiny. Macbeth creates his own misery when he is driven by his own sense of guilt. This causes him to become insecure as to the reasons for his actions, which in turn cause him to commit more murders. He constantly reveals his innermost thoughts. The witches offer great persuasion, but it is in the end, each individual's decision to fall for the temptation, or to be strong enough to resist the witches captivation. Sometimes it is thought that the witches have the ability to reverse the natural order of things. When the witches tell him the vision, Macbeth is pleased with what he hears for he 'Shall never be vanquished' and 'none of women born shall harm Macbeth.' Macbeth's mind is overridden by greed and ambition, he becomes more and more evil so he doesn't think about what the prophecies truly meant. This shows that the witches are very influential once they have chosen their prey. Banquo is surprised that Macbeth isn't ecstatic at the prophecy, and asks the witches why they have no prophecy for him. The witches make important predictions for Banquo, as lesser but greater, less happy but happier than Macbeth. They also say his children will become Kings. When Banquo says 'The earth hath bubbles, as the water has, / And these are of them. Whither are they vanish'd?' this to me means that Banquo is unsure whether these witches belong to the physical or the supernatural world. Banquo is cautious of the witches, because evil can sometimes seem tempting. 'So foul and fair a day', which are Macbeth's first words in Act , Scene echo the witches' last lines in Act , Scene .

The play begins on a dark, barren place in Scotland where the witches plan to meet after the battle, which we later find is a rebellion in Scotland, and to the witches, the outcome is known. When shall we three meet again? / In thunder, lightning, or in rain?", says the first witch. They make plans to find Macbeth upon the Heath, and exit chanting "Fair is foul, and foul is fair / Hover through the fog and filthy air." At the very beginning, the atmosphere that has been created is contributed to the effect of just the witches' presence. However, the settings for the scenes help considerably to portray the darkness and gloom. In the following scene, it is in fact the given descriptions of the environment that create the first perception of evil [A desert place. Thunder and Lightning. Enter three witches.] The witches in the very first lines of the play foreshadowed all this imagery because the atmosphere is dark and evil. Because the witches show up at seemingly correct parts in accordance with the major events, these two lines confirm the setting and mood, which characterizes Macbeth. The first witch speaks the following lines "When shall we three meet again/ In thunder, lightning, or in rain." The atmosphere is further expressed with the ending lines of the scene, with references to Paddock, a toad, which they worship, and the murky environment. These hideous images further make the atmosphere more revolting. "Paddock calls. Anon! Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air."

In Act d, scene , in which the witches appear we see how their power is limited. One of the witches asks the sailor's wife can she have a chestnut, but she refuses to give her a chestnut. Because she refuses, they make the sailors life hell when he's out sailing on his boat, by creating massive wave storms. Although they do not have the power to kill him, they just cause him misery. In the film by Roman Polanski this scene is cut out. I think he does this because he wants the witches to seem like they are all powerful. If Polanski included this scene it would spoil the whole image he is trying to create of the witches and would show that the witches' powers have a barrier.

When Lady Macbeth receives the news of the prophecies in Act d, Scene 5 in a letter from her husband, she is determined the prophecy of him becoming king will come true, but she is worried that Macbeth won't have the guts to kill for the position. "They met me in the day of success and I have learned by the perfectest report, they have more in them than mortal knowledge." This, in Macbeth's letter to his wife, writes of the witches and has jumped to a conclusion; he doesn't know for sure that the witches have supernatural knowledge. It's true that moments after they hail Macbeth as Thane of Cawdor, Angus and Ross deliver the news that he has been named Thane of Cawdor, but that news wasn't a secret. The witches could have picked it up before Angus and Ross showed up.

Macbeth's ambition is deep within him and because of this, both the witches and Lady Macbeth are able to manipulate him to evil. It is this ambition that gets him into so much trouble initially. Macbeth is portrayed to have retained his own free will, given that his actions are inspired by Lady Macbeth. If the evil that Macbeth is going to commit cannot be directly carried out by the witches' command over him, then how will he be compelled to murder Duncan and the many more that follow? Everyone is responsible for his own destiny. This is an important theme in this tragedy. Macbeth chooses to gamble with his soul and when he does this it is only him who chooses to lose it. He is responsible for anything he does and must take total liability for his actions. Macbeth is the one who made the final decision to carry out his actions. He made these final decisions and continued with the killings. I think the three witches, knowing of his ambitions, could persuade Macbeth to evil, but they could not compel him to it; by a vague representation of the foreseen future they could tempt him to choose an apparent before a real good. I don't think the witches are of all power but like capitalizing on the weakness of others. Macbeth falls into this trap and someone else may have not been so weak. They enjoy preying on Macbeth because they like to exploit his weaknesses, like seeing him being destroyed and enjoy watching his high and mighty title collapsing in front of him.

Set in England on the Yorkshire Moors in the 1th century, Emily Bronts novel Wuthering Heights is the story of lovers who try to withstand the separation of social classes and keep their love alive.

The main characters, Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff grew up on a middle class English countryside cottage called Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff was the servant and Catherine the daughter of the owner of Wuthering Heights. As children, Heathcliff and Catherine were the best of friends, a friendship which turned to love with the coming of age. Catherine married a man of the upper class society and was forced to end her love affair with Heathcliff. Catherine was happy in her marriage at first but later became overwhelmed with her desire to be with Heathcliff. She was forced to distinguish the difference between her love for Heathcliff and her love for her new life with money. In the end, Catherine Earnshaw¹s husband, Edgar Linton, died and Catherine finally realized that money and social class were not as fulfilling as her desire to have passion in her life, a desire which could only be met by Heathcliff. Throughout the book, Catherine tried to discover who she was and what exactly she wanted. In chapters 6 and 7, Catherine thought that she had finally discovered who she was and what she wanted. These chapters are the pinnacle of the story. It was the point in the book where the social classes were determined and Catherine¹s love for Heathcliff was forced to be supressed. Heathcliff and Catherine were still young and playing together innocently one day. This was before Catherine became a member of the upperclass society and realized that she could not love Heathcliff because of his social class. Heathcliff and Catherine wandered beyond the secure gates of Wuthering Heights to a large estate owned by Edgar Linton called Thrushcross Grange. They spyed through one of the windows and were caught by Linton. Heathcliff managed to escape in time but Catherine injured herself and was taken in by Linton¹s servants. Catherine stayed at Thrushcross Grange while Heathcliff return! ed to Wuthering Heights. She stayed at the estate for several weeks being nursed by Linton and his servants. The time she spent with Linton caused her to fall in love with him, causing her to permanently be separated from Heathcliff and the lower class life she used to know. Catherine became so absorbed in her new life that she forgot about Heathcliff and the pain he was feeling, until she realizes that there was something missing in her life. She finally knew that in order for her to become a whole person, she needed to be with her other half, Heathcliff.

Although there are many different important messages in this novel, the main value is the changes which occur in and between the characters. It is a love story which deals with the social classes and the supression of true feelings. Wuthering Heights is a tragedy because of what happens when the characters finally discover what was truely meant to be. Wuthering Heights bestowes a moral value onto the reader of discrimination and true heart-break.

In many parts of the world soccer is not just a game. It is a part of life for many people. People in other parts of the world take the game of soccer very seriously. In comparison, soccer to them is like baseball or football to us. Many of the young children do not throw a baseball or football in the streets, instead they are usually kicking a ball back and forth or playing some kind of game involving kicking a ball.

Fans of soccer can sometimes be the most violent fans in any sport. In England, for example, most of the fans go to bars before they attend a game. English fans have become so obnoxious that cities actually charter buses to transport the fans from the bars to the games. The reason cities went to this extreme is because fans would become embroiled in large altercations in the streets on the way to the games. Although the buses are a way to control the fans outside the stadium, there is little to stop them once they get into their seats in the stadium. Unfortunately, fights break out in the stands during the game. In some of these fights, people have actually died because the fights become very violent. In some cases there has been partial stadium collapses because too many fans go into one section to engage in a fight.

Other actions that have made soccer fans over in England notorious for their bad behavior, is the rioting following many games. After watching their teams lose in the game, fans take to the streets and display their rage. One of the draw backs from this actions, is that many innocent people get injured or they have some of their property damaged because of the rioting.

Although there are some negative aspects to these fans, they are also good for many reasons. When opposing teams come into town and play, it is very good to have a good crowd behind the home team. It can be very intimidating walking onto a field with 60,000 plus fans screaming and yelling. To make matters worse for the opposing team, many of the fans are intoxicated.

The grand-daddy of all soccer events happens once every four years. The event is known as the World Cup. Players from all over the world come to represent their country in the tournament. It is one of the greatest spectacles in sports today. People from all over the world, travel to support their team and their country. One example of how serious this event is happened back in 14 when the World Cup was held in the United States. It was a game between the United States and Columbia in an elimination game. The game was very intense and very close. Unfortunately for Columbia, one of their own players scored for the United States on an unlucky bounce of the ball. Columbia ended up losing the game by that goal. After the World Cup was over the Columbian national team returned home. The player who scored the own goal was shot a killed by a Columbian soccer fan. This gave people in the United States an idea of how serious people in other parts of the world take the game of soccer.

Players in other parts of the world get paid as much as our superstars here in the United States. The great athletes in other countries get treated similar to the way our great athletes. They are the ones that all the young children look up to and want to be like. In other countries, young kids are not wearing Kobe Bryant jerseys or Michael Jordan jerseys. Instead they are wearing David Beckham and Michael Owen jerseys. These two athletes are the top players in the English Premier League.

The United States has taken steps in an effort to promote soccer here in the States. They created a league known as the Major League Soccer (MLS). Although the teams here do not have the top players in the world, team managers are trying to acquire the big names so that the league will become more competitive. Although now it is not as competitive as the other leagues around the world, the MLS is slowly beginning to produce quality players on a high level. Fans that attend the MLS games do not compare to the fans that go to the games in other parts of the world. Although attendance for the MLS games is slowly increasing, it still is nowhere near the attendance for the international leagues. Most of the games that are played in the English Premier League are sold out. The type of fans the games attract differ greatly as well. Many of the fans that attend the English games are "diehards."

Soccer is one of the greatest games in the world. Many American people are hoping that it catches on here like it did over in Europe. Some of the greatest athletes in the world are soccer players. Many American people think that soccer is a game for people that can not play football or baseball. People believe that only the un-athletic people play soccer. In fact, that is the wrong perception of the game. It takes a great deal of skill to do what the great players of the game do.

One of the most popular sports in the world today is soccer. Many people that I have told that to, tend to disagree with me. What they fail to realize is the prominence of soccer world wide, not just in the United States. People do not realize that outside of the United States, people live and die by soccer. Young children grow up playing soccer in the streets idolizing the players they see on television.

In Lonne Elder III's Ceremonies In Dark Old Men, Mr. Russell Parker owns a barbershop that is on the verge of failing. His two sons, Theopolis and Bobby, are both active participators in the crime scene of Harlem. His daughter, Adele, works many hours a week to support her father and her two brothers. This cast carries us thru the action of this play. Three aspects of this play caught my attention as I read it. Adele's attitude throughout the play, Bobby's crimes, and the cliffhanger ending caught my attention more than the rest.

Adele's attitude throughout the play changes several times based upon the events that are happening around her. At the opening of the play, she's working hard to support her father and her brothers, and all they do in return is expect her to do more. Her attitude changes again when her brothers and father finally go into business for themselves producing corn whiskey. She undergoes another change of attitude when she finds out that her brother, Bobby, has been killed. Adele's attitudes add a lot of suspense to this play, and it helps to move the action from one act to another. Without it, I do not think the play would have had the same meaning and impact on me.

The crimes that Bobby commits during the course of the play increased my reaction to the play. He starts off with very small things. Occasionally stealing something from here and something from there, but with time, he ends up stealing a typewriter for his father's birthday just because Theo said that their dad would enjoy having a typewriter. When Theo starts producing corn whiskey, Bobby began breaking into various stores during the night and robbing them blind, stealing major items. This move up in burglary set the stage for the cliffhanger at the end of the play, and I feel that it was a necessary part of the play.

The end of this play was one major cliffhanger. I found out that Bobby was killed during a robbery. When Theo and Adele found out, they both were in total shock and neither of them spoke a word during the entire second scene of act two. I then found out that Mr. Jenkins had heard the news and was coming over to tell Mr. Parker what had happened. About this time, Mr. Parker comes back into the action and just keeps rambling on and on about the happenings and how he beat Mr. Jenkins in a game of checkers, completely unaware of what has happened to his son. The play just drops off with him asking, "Say, where's Bobby?" This cliffhanger was one of the best I had ever read, and it left me hanging there wondering what had happened.

In my opinion, this was one of the best plays I had ever read, and I would most definitely recommend it to anyone who ever asked me to give them something to read. The plot and storyline of the play was wonderful and had my attention from the very beginning, and the cliffhanger at the end just astonished me and left me thinking of all the possible things that could have happened when Mr. Parker found out about Bobby's death. I think he would have went into the basement and shot himself, but how will we ever know what truly happens?

As the door slowly opened the youth held his breath. What could be the selection of his princess? A tiger stood right in front of the youth, suddenly sprang upon him. He was completely aware of the fact that he was not able to leave the arena. The youth forgot everything just kept running. All the sound people could hear are youth's groan and tiger's howl. Second by second, the youth' step became slow, and fell down in the middle of the arena. He looked up at princess for the slightest moment and his eyes locked what they could see.

The princess, like all the people in the arena, could not move or even breathe. She watched the door open, the tiger captured and tore her lover until he couldn't move in the arena. She could almost hear his bones cracking and his shrieks echoed in the silent arena. The princess's heart was tortured just like being cut by thousands sharp knives. Suddenly, the princess jumped from her throne and ran into the arena. She couldn't watch youth marry another lady; her nature drove her to choose to die with her lover together. The princess ran so quickly and crazily that no soldiers could stop her. Just a few minutes, the princess laid down by the youth and closed her eye with a beautiful smile.

Everything happened just in a blink. The king was completely shocked. His brain turned to blank, and his body heavily fell on the ground. From that awful day, the semibarbaric king would forever hear the shrieks of his princess and being destroyed by the jaws of the striped tiger. The king would forever see the blood gushing from his princess's body. The king would forever regret what he had done.

Success My Way

Defining success is a difficult task, because it is a relative term. At my young age I fear I may not have enough experience or milestones under my belt to define such a grand word, however, I will make my best attempt to do so. Michael Korda's definition of success is a helpful one, however, I doubt I can yet concur completely because I have not tasted the success he speaks of. Although lacking in experience of my own, I will use his views to amplify some thoughts of my own.

There is so little that I've achieved, and so much more to overcome. From the obstacles that I have overcome, however small they may be, I can define my success as a state of mind, a state of peace. Success is a feeling of happiness and content, and usually involves a feeling of reflection. The greatest joy I receive from success is reflecting on my journey from the starting to end point. Upon looking back, I always find myself succeeding at something-mere moments after I almost surrender myself. I can compare the state of success as something a little out of our grasp, however hard we reach, or however fast we run towards it, it does not make itself attainable until we are fatigued and close to expiring. The struggle and path towards success may seem turbulent, but it is always worth the ride. It is a struggle that requires a lot of sweat, sometimes blood, and maybe sometimes tears. It is only after we've exhausted ourselves and reached our destination that we see our efforts paid off. Not too long ago, I was working towards a higher belt ranking in a martial arts association. Along the way there were many times I wanted to give up, and many other times I questioned my dedication towards the goal. It took a lot of internal strength and diligence, but after constant training and practice, I achieved my higher belt ranking. It was only then that I appreciated my own time and investments towards my goal. As superficial the term 'success' may be, I believe it involves hard work, dedication, and sometimes forging effort that we never thought we had.

I agree with Michael Korda's reference to success as a journey. He states a good point that I'd like to elaborate on. I would add to his point that the journey is similar to an adventure. The goal is essential to success, but the journey should not be overlooked. On our paths towards our destinations we grow in character, in wisdom and strength. On our paths to our destinations is where we acquire the traits of a successful person. On our paths to our destinations is where we struggle, sometimes with ourselves and sometimes with others. It is here, in the trenches of our battles, when integrity, bone, and sinew are tested and we are revealed to the hardships we must face and overcome. However formidable or appalling the adventure may sound, for the strong there is always a victory revel in. With obstacles defeated, and hardships won, we can call ourselves travelers, because we've journeyed to success.

Custom writing service can write essays on Success My Way

Michael Korda refers to this journey as something that has little to do with morality. I have to disagree with this point. There are many different professions and goals to set out for. Good or bad, big or small, in the profession we choose these things do not matter to us. However, I believe each role or occupation that we choose, is its own entity and has its own morality. For example, a soldier's duty is to defend our freedom, our land and our bases and our people and county. There are times when a soldier's duty may include brute force, or harm to our enemies at the cost of our defense. Can we say that the soldier is righteous, because he's defending us? Or should we say his alignment is more towards diabolic, because he's a killer? In a situation like this, morality to the unfamiliar eye may seem confusing. Some may even say he has no morals at all. Some may say, he's just doing his job, getting ahead in his career, but carries no morals. I think it would be wrong to say that. I believe morality plays its part in everything, even in an occupation like this. The soldier's morale is placed not in the whole-hearted attempt at being good, neither is it placed in the attempt at being evil, his morality is established in the soldier's role itself. The soldier's role is that of a freedom fighter, a defender and a provider. Soldiers are expected to maintain their honor, courage, and commitment to a set of values. It is here within these values where you would find morality. It is here where the soldier would find reasons and justification for his actions. Morality is a vital part of any successful profession or goal. Try to imagine a soldier with no morals, no commitment, and no honor. How successful would he be? Without a belief system his actions wouldn't be as powerful, his movements not as swift, and his drive not as vigorous. Morality is very much essential to a successful person, in any profession we may choose.

Success is a sweet thing. Something that may appear impalpable at times, but something we should not fear. It takes a journey worth going on and effort worth spending to become successful. Do not fear the journey that may appear too perilous to trek on, but fear that we may miss the chance to take that journey.

Who We Are and What We Do

MassHousings Youth RAP program grew out of the concerns expressed by housing managers about the lack of resources for young people living in MassHousing developments in Boston neighborhoods. These were expressed at the Boston Inner City Task Force meetings, monthly meetings convened to bring together the parties most interested in a holistic approach to the issues of owning and managing inner city properties; and by management company liaisons active in MassHousings Tenant Assistance Program (TAP).

In the summer of 11, seven programs started up at MassHousing developments. Over 00 younger children participated in organized recreational activities and field trips, and 60 young people were employed in a variety of jobs. Some were day camp counselors, some were office workers. The majority of teens employed participated in on-site work crew programs.

The results of these efforts went far beyond the economic effect of these kids very small paychecks. The young people involved took a new interest in the place they live.
