guidelines one must follow to insure that the athletes are being treated and fed well during a pre-game meal. The pre-game meal will be given to Athletes three to four hours before the game. By eating three to fours before game this will allow the athlete enough time to digest their food. The meal should be very high in starch. Starches are easy to digest and help steady the levels of blood sugar. There should be moderate proteins given because proteins take longer to digest. There will be a limit on fats and oil because they take too long to digest.

There are some things one must avoid when planning a pre-game meal. The athlete must avoid sweets because they can cause rapid energy swings in blood sugar levels and result in low blood sugar and less energy. They must avoid food and beverages that contain caffeine. If I had a choice of how long I would like to live, I would want to live until I see all my kids grow up and finish college. I can not say an age, because I do not know how long that would take, but I imagine I would be roughly around 87 years old. The reason I mention eighty seven years old is because that is how long my great-grandmother lived before she passed.

I do not want my kids to see me suffer when I get old and helpless and I do not want to suffer from any pain while I am in old age. I have seen many people suffer and wish they were dead. Honestly, I do not know how they feel, but I do not want to end my life in pain. I want to go out of this world in peace. My friends are constantly telling me that everyone has to die of something one day.

The oldest person I know is my Granny and she is now seventy two years old. My Granny suffers from a bad knee, and sometime it goes out on her. She is still working as a babysitter, keeping her grandchildren while their parents are at work. She has never been put in the hospital, never had a broken bone, and never had any age-related illness. My Granny is an active member of the church, where she ushers, leads the missionary, and is the head of the kitchen staff. She will always tell you that she will keep on working until her time is up.

Honestly, I would like to be like my Granny because she has done a lot in her years. She is active in church and she stills cooks the same as she would 40 years ago, she is moving about the same as a 0 year old woman. My Granny is a good role model for the family. She supports everything that her grandchildren partake in. When I reach the age she is at I hope I will be in the same shape and condition she is in.

I want to know more about the characters Mr. Nilson and Mr. Tandram. Im excited to read this story. It is a must for us, students, to read such kind of stories written by John Galsworthy. This is part of Literature that would be tackled up in our class. Im not sure if it is part of American literature but Im quite sure that this would open up the minds of students like me on how good it feels when you have read stories written by a Nobel prized author. A lot of students hates reading but I know that this story would change their beliefs. I know that as we go through on reading The Japanese Quince. We would encounter new words which would widen our vocabulary and help us in constructing sentences, not just sentences, but meaningful sentences which could lead to meaningful paragraphs until a good composition is made. This would be very educational. I dont consider reading boring like what the other people say. In fact, it is very entertaining. You can even go to other places without riding on a vehicle. I anticipate that this story would give us moral lessons which would help us in becoming what we want in the future. Who knows, in the future, I could be the next John Galsworthy.

Beowulf is a story about a king named Hrothgar who has a stunning empire and foyer called Herot that was built for his soldiers. A man-eating monster named Grendel is petrifying Hrothgar's kingdom. Every night he arrives to kill King Hrothgar's men. The monster comes to murder anyone its claws can grasp.

Finally, words broaden about the monsters ferocious visits. Beowulf, the Geat, comes to Hrothgar's kingdom he and his men and offers to kill Grendel. Hrothgar remembered he helped Beowulf's father Ecgtheow, so he welcomes him. During his visit, a man named Unferth tries to get into an argument with Beowulf by accusing him of losing a swimming contest with a man named Brecca. Beowulf tells the story of his heroic victory in the contest, and the group celebrates his bravery.

Beowulf then fights Grendel and tears his arm out of his socket and kills him. (Grendel dies later on after he escapes from Beowulf but Beowulf is the reason why he died.) Grendels, mother then comes wanting vengeance for her son and kills Hrothgars best friend Aeschere. When Beowulf is called to the hall, he finds Hrothgar in grief for his friend. Beowulf then goes to the burning lake and jumps in to find Grendels mother. He kills her and cuts off her head and finds Grendel and cuts off his head.

The name of the story is called "Beowulf". In the beginning Scyld Scefing was an orphan and he got lucky and became ruler. Hrothgar was his great grandson and he was a noble king. Hrothgar built a mead hall named Herot for his soldiers because they had won a lot of wars. Then one night this monster had came named Grendel. Grendel was a descendent from Cain and he was evil. He came on night will the soldiers were drunk and sleep and killed about thirty of Hrothgars men. For about 1 winters he came and was killing the soldiers. Then Beowulf the Geat came and told Hrothgar that he would help him since he helped his daddy awhile back. So Beowulf and his men went to eat then a guy named Unferth came and was trying to hate on Beowulf saying that he was lying about the swimming contest between he and Brecca. So Beowulf told his story and Unferth was jealous that a man came to his town to do a job he couldn't do. Finally, Beowulf meets Grendel because they were all in Herot pretending to be asleep, then Grendel came and kicked in the doors and snatched up one dude then he grabbed Beowulf and Beowulf got his arm and held it tight. Grendel then got scared and all he wanted to do was leave, but he couldn't because the man had him in his grasp. Beowulf rips of his arm and Grendel crawls home and dies. Well his mother found him and when the soldiers were in Herot she came and killed Hrothgars best friend and takes back Grendels arm. Then Beowulf had to jump in to the burning lake where she lived and fight the mother. He ends up cutting her and Grendels head off and bringing it back on the sword called Hrunting. Then Beowulf has to fight this dragon because someone stole an item from the treasure he was guarding.

HAMLETS GREATEST FLAW

Does Hamlet have a tragic flaw? What is it and how does it affect his surroundings and himself? What is the outcome of his flaw?

Hamlet has a tragic flaw in his personality and behavior. His flaw is that he is overly concerned with death and tragedy. This flaw or weakness in Hamlet leads him into a world of chaotic surroundings and madness. Hamlets flaw and his mad personality led to the death of several people, including his mother and the King of Denmark. If Hamlet did not have this fascination with death and tragedy, the deaths of several people would not have occurred, including his own. Hamlet did not always have this flaw in his personality. A ghost presented the flaw to him, a ghost that resembled the deceased king and told Hamlet that he was murdered by Claudius and asked Hamlet to avenge his murder. This is where the flaw is adopted by Hamlet and begins to affect his life. Hamlet begins to dig deeper and deeper to find the truth. He puts on an act of madness to disguise his revenge. Hamlet becomes so over-whelmed with death that death is all he thinks or cares about. The death and deception burns into his heart like a hot branding iron to a steer. Hamlet's friend Horatio, who knows of the murder of Hamlets father, presents Hamlet with his plans and opinions in which Hamlet trusts. Horatio acted as an advisor to Hamlet, but he did not tell Hamlet that he was heading in the wrong direction. Because of this Hamlets heart pounded hard with the thought of revenge. The flaw was there and the stage was set for tragedy. There was no way for Hamlet to change his destiny.

Haste me to know 't, that I, with wings as swift as meditation or the thought of love may sweep to my revenge. (Act 1, Scene 5. Line )

Hamlet's flaw increasingly affects his surroundings. Hamlet begins to forget all the important obligations in his life and neglects his responsibilities, causing other problems. One very important commitment Hamlet has, which he let go, is his relationship with Ophelia. Ophelia becomes very confused and hurt. Hamlet hurts her in a couple of ways. First, he neglects her, and second, he insults her. He insults her by telling her she is a prostitute.

"Ay, truly, for the power of beauty will sooner transform honesty from what it is to a bawd than the force of honesty can translate beauty into his likeness. This was sometime a paradox, but now the time gives it proof. I did love you once." (Act , Scene 1, Line 111)

Then Hamlet kills Polonius, Ophelias father, which in turn makes her go mad and in her madness she commits suicide. He does not respect the King or his mothers feelings. Hamlet meets with his mother and insults her. He calls her a whore and a sinner for marrying a murderer. Since he knows that the King is a murderer, he attempts to expose him. Hamlet stages a play in which the players act out the scenes of King Hamlets murder. This greatly upsets the new King and the King adopts some of Hamlets obsessions with death and begins to think of a way to get rid of Hamlet.

All of the deaths in the play occur because of Hamlets actions and his fascination with death. Ophelia dies because Hamlet kills Polonius. This drives Ophelia mad and then she commits suicide. She saw the truth of the treachery that was going on and thought that her death would be the better course of action. The King plots to kill Hamlet in a duel between Laertes and Hamlet. The tip of Laertes rapier was poisoned. Hamlet wounded Laertes twice before he wounds Hamlet. Hamlet then gets Laertes poisoned rapier and wounds Laertes. They both will die. Then Hamlet was supposed to drink out of a poisoned glass of wine but doesnt, yet his mother does and she dies. The truth comes out, Hamlet then goes and stabs the King and pours poison down his throat, which in turn kills him. Then Hamlet and Laertes die from the poison. Horatio is left standing alive. Hamlets actions have killed all the nobility in Denmark.

If Hamlet did not have this fascination with death and tragedy, the deaths of several people would not have occurred, including his own. If Hamlet did not pursue his flaw and had chosen a different path, perhaps his life wouldnt have ended in tragedy. The theme of the play is tragedy leads to chaos and chaos leads to death; and life cannot exist without the three. It is a cycle and Hamlets flaw causes his cycle to become shortened.

O, I die, Horatio. The potent poison quite o'ercrows my spirit. I cannot live to hear the news from England, but I do prophesy th'election lights on Fortinbras. He has my dying voice. So tell him, with th'ocurrents more and less which have solicitedthe rest is silence." (Act 5, Scene , Line 58)

The Traditional Approach

1.) Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in Salem Massachusetts in 1804. Hawthorn was also a descendant of Puritan ancestors, one of which being a judge responsible for the Salem witch trials. Therefore the combination of Hawthorn's family history and the given history of his birthplace, helped influences his choice for maintaining a Puritan New England type setting for much of his literary works.

.) King William

"And yet, though the elder person was as simply clad as the younger, and as simple in manner too, he had an indescribable air of one who knew the world, and would not have felt abashed at the governors dinner-table, or in King Williams court, were it possible that his affairs should call him thither."(Paragraph 1,Hawthorne)

Buy "Young Goodman Brown" by Nathaniel Hawthorne analysis term paper

Within Hawthorne's work, he has made reference to King William. King William was a distinguished respectable man, hence by Comparing Goodman Brown to him suggests that he is also a man of great honour. Likewise, King William became king of England in 1685, after the invasion of Parliament causing James II to run to France. William was a strong rival of the French and their expansion. Under William's jurisdiction the transition occurred from personal government of the House of Stuart to the parliamentary rule of the house of Hanover.

King Philips War

"And it was I that brought your father a pitch-pine knot, kindled at my own hearth, to set fire to an Indian village, in King Philips war." (Paragraph 17, Hawthorne)

King Philips War was another historical event that the author Hawthorne had made reference to in the duration of his short story. By referring to the killing of the natives, suggests discrimination and hatred towards the group. Thus, Hawthorne was conveying the evil that the Puritans are capable of. King Philips War occurred during 1675-1676. As colonists continued to immigrate to New England, the more and more persistent they were on colonizing the Natives and instituting them under colonial control. The Natives did want to give up their freedom and surrender to the English; this then resulted in conflict, which contributed to King Philips War.

The Quakers

"I helped your grandfather, the constable, when he lashed the Quaker woman so smartly through the streets of Salem."(Paragraph 17, Hawthorne)

The reference to the Quakers is an additional example of the historical figures incorporated by Hawthorne into his work. Hawthorne refers to the Quakers by recalling the brutal punishment giving to a Quaker woman for her differences in comparison to the puritans. Thus, Hawthorne is conveying the evil origins in persecuting others for their beliefs. Furthermore, The Quakers were first introduced in the mid- seventeenth century. George Fox is known as the founder of the Quakers otherwise known as the Society of Friends. Fox traveled all over England to talked to priests, religious scalars and others seeking religious significance.

.) Puritanism in America was started by a group of Puritan separatists who fled from England in 1608 and eventually landing on the shores of America in160 establishing there own settlements. The puritans were extremists Calvinistic Protestants, and they believed that the universe was centered on God. They believed that it was every person's duty to best understand God, the Bible and the universe created by the Lord. Therefore religion was taken very seriously and church was attended on a regular basis. Furthermore, typically the women were responsible for maintaining a tidy household and caring for the children as the men would work out in the fields. Young boys would attend school or help their fathers while young girls were to stay home with their mothers to acquire about maintaining a household. Dancing was forbidden along with any other acts concerning free spirited behavior. If one was caught engaging in such an act or any abnormal behavior, they could be easily accused of witchcraft , were usually punished and were possibly put on trail. Therefore the life of a Puritan was very strict and rigid, limiting them to living a life of freedom.

Within the story "Young Goodman Brown" Hawthorne used many example of Satires to express his true feelings towards regarded topics. For example, when Goodman Brown is speaking to the older man he says,

I helped your grandfather, the constable, when he lashed the Quaker woman so smartly through the streets of Salem. And it was I that brought your father a pitch-pine knot, kindled at my own hearth, to set fire to an Indian village, in King Philips war. (Paragraph 17, Hawthorne)

Hawthorne is allowing the evil of the puritans to be revealed. The evil is shown through prosecuting others such as the Quakers and the Natives for their ethical and religious differences. The puritans believe that they are truly good and religious, but really by committing such immoral acts, such as killing suggest that they are corrupt. Moving along, a satire is also evident by Hawthorne's choice of using maple as the primary wood for the walking stick. "As they went, he plucked a branch of maple to serve for a walking stick..."(paragraph 7, Hawthorne) Maple is a wood that tends to decay from the inside out. Therefore it may appear fine and healthy from the outside, but really it is lifeless and rotting within. The maple stick serves as a symbol for the average Puritan person. This suggests that a puritan seems smart content and rational to most, however their inner person that is not so revealed, is truly evil and dishonest. Hawthorne is therefore expressing his belief that evil lives within mankind. Similarly, Hawthorne makes another reference to evil residing in society. To illustrate,

The road grew wilder and drearier, and more faintly traced, and vanished at length, leaving him in the heart of the dark wilderness, still rushing onward, with the instinct that guides mortal man to evil. (Paragraph 50, Hawthorne.)

Within this statement the author is suggesting that all man are born with a basic instinct leading humans to evil. Hawthorne is saying that if we are to let down our guard we may be lead by the evil that is contained within us. Therefore, no matter how hard people such as the puritans try to be righteous and pure, there will always be a force within them driving them to take the evil path.

Textual- Linguistic Approach

1.

"What, my sweet, pretty wife, dost thou doubt me already"(Paragraph , Hawthorne)

dost- A second person singular present tense of do. Therefore to perform or execute.

"Amen!" cried Goodman Brown. "Say thy prayers, dear Faith, and go to bed at dusk...."(Paragraph 5, Hawthorne)

Thy- Used to indicate the one being addressed. (In this case meaning "your")

" 'The clock of the Old South was striking as I came through Boston; and that is full fifteen minutes agone.' " (Paragraph 10, Hawthorne)

Agone Gone in the past.

"...it is my purpose now to return whence I came."(Paragraph 14, Hawthorne)

Wence- From where; from what place.

"...conscious of the guilty purpose that had brought him thither, though now so happily turned from it..."(Paragraph 40 , Hawthorne)

Thither- To or toward that place; in that direction.

" 'A grave and dark-clad company!' quoth Goodman Brown" (Paragraph 54, Hawthorne)

Qouth- To utter or to say.

" 'What God doth the wizard pray to?' "

doth- third person present tense of do. Therefore to perform or to execute

Moral Philosophical Approach

1.

The moral philosophical approach appears to be the most effective approach to understanding the story because it communicates morals and appears to try to teach a lesson to the readers. The story suggests that not all things are indeed as they appear to be in essence. Didacticism is a very significant element to the story and is communicated very well by attempting to teach and moralize a point to the readers. Within Hawthorne's story, evil is what transforms a once happy loving man to a self-doubting, faithless individual. Those that Brown would least suspect to be involved in any wrongdoing were the individuals that exposed Young Goodman Brown to sin. By Goodman Brown being exposed to sin by those who he respected so greatly causes him to lose faith in God. Therefore by abandoning God, one tends to live a more sinful life and therefore is more swayed to follow the path of evil. To Goodman Brown, evil was hidden where he least likely suspected it to be. Therefore not everything that appears good is truly pure in basic nature, for it may be anyone or anything that harbors the evil that we mostly fear.

I dont have one yet but if i have it finished ill post it here. Personal Essay

Sometimes I find myself in my father's closet. My head amongst pillows and mismatched socks, I lay back looking at the blank wall. Shirts, jeans and shoes create a woven mound of clutter. It is the clutter that makes my house so comfortable. It may seem clean every now and then, but the truth is hidden in the many drawers, closets and cabinets. My father's closet is the cornerstone of our household clutter. Most of the stray objects are not his. When dinner parties or guests are scheduled, a frantic panic sets in. All lost belongings, old boxes, dirty socks and shoes all end up in a tremendous heap in my father's closet. His closet if filled with old posters, blankets sheets and knick knacks- you name it. So when I am looking for something or I am bored, I go to his closet. My parents, through out my childhood, have taken slides for every trip, hike and excursion we went on. I'm not sure why they don't do it any more- perhaps it was part of a documentation of sorts- their lives as parents- a motion from flower child hippies to responsible, educated adults. We have thousands of slides all over- some 500 or so are organized, my mother paid me to do this one year. I sat down for hours labeling and dividing slides by the years- I didn't get too far, but I guess some organization is better than none. My mom is always too busy to do such trivial things as simple organization with her time. I often wonder how a chemist could be accurate and precise yet be so unorganized at the same time. She spends endless time in front of her computer analyzing data and making models. Besides on her work, most of my mom 's time is spent convincing me and my brother to do our homework. My parents are deeply rooted in education.

The Cement Garden

The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan captures our attention to the children's inner world. We begin to examine the given events from the perspective of Jack, the adolescent narrator. An exploration is made of how the individual interior world of each child correlates with one another and their family culture.

The novel opens with a sense of guilt and a feeling of unhappy self-containment, which introduces the atmosphere of The Cement Garden. Jack is a fifteen year old male adolescent. McEwan focuses on Jacks physical bodily functions and darker mental emotions, which are more grotesque and intense.

The first sentence in the book expresses Jacks feelings of guilt towards his father's death. " I did not kill my father, but sometimes think that I helped him on his way" (pg ). McEwan draws us in by directing our attention to the tormented mental world of Jack. We then only see and observe the world of Jack and his siblings from his viewpoint. Everything is filtered from his lonely and questionable perception. McEwan leaves it to us to analyze the action of the novel from Jack's perspective. This then gives us more of a sense to the boy's world. The discomfort that is felt when reading the novel prepares us for Jacks alienated inner world. The family even before the parent's death, is divided within itself and isolated from other people. Therefore Jacks lonely voice gives the narration an environment that creates the isolated dominance of the family.

Write your The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan research paperIf we step back from the some of the distracting things that Jack does it is apparent that much about him is different but relatively normal. He torments his younger brother Tom, is confused about his older feelings for his sister Julie, and has masturbating habits. He is vulnerable, selfish and unsure, there is nothing really unusual about this except his and the rest of the family's response to the father's death. Their response to it at an emotional level is disturbing. The book shows no points were the family is grieving or any other impression of it, they just simply carry on with out the father. Although the family does not show any grief they remain socially and physically disassociated from other people.

There is no one in whom Jack can confide in. The author show's no special bond that Jack has with anyone. This causes Jack to bring out anxiety and makes him his behavior negative everyone. Jack's adult world was represented by his mother and father, which brings us to an analization that he was never given the support that he need to become less alienated from his peers and more connected to his family. Jack is trapped in remorse, loneliness, and confusion, while he is already mentally tired from the trauma of his mother's death.

The other children also have no normal model of grieving processes in which to show. Therefore, it is fear and love that gets the older children to hide their mother's corpse to avoid the unknown future of what they see as a very dark world. The concealment of her body works on Jack at a mental and emotional level.

Julie is the seventeen year-old sister, who we see through the eyes of Jack. She is shown to be the unhappy immature mother figure. Julie appears to be more of an authoritative figure then Jack. She is the eldest child and is more responsible and logical. Sue and especially Tom have Julie to look at as their parent figure. However, despite Jack and Julie's difference they see the same wherein often also they are very viscous towards each other. Their two senses of understanding and despising each other draws them closer. Jack and Julie's unique role in the house and loneliness brings them together and gives them some sort of bond.

Jack and Julie later become very immune to what they have done with their mother's corpses. They are aware of what they have done but their understanding is not reality. They can smell the corps and know what the smell is but can not admit it to them selves. Sue the quietest and third child want's to tell someone about her mother's death. It is Jack and Julie who warn her that if she does then that would mean all of them going to an orphanage.

The Cement Garden takes four children and focuses on the life style they are living. McEwan puts the children in a very hard situation as they try to carry on after the death of both parents. McEwan makes the environment dark and dull, which gives us a sense on Jack's individual mental world, and the family's tormented minds. The children try and struggle to keep their world together by staying close and together with one another.
