What would you rather market, a pure product or a pure service?

I definitely would rather market a pure product versus a pure service.

Why?

In the U.S., a doctor, a stockbroker and a lawyer typically are held in a high esteem due to their profession and potential for wealth creation.

However, in Europe these service professionals don't come close to the high regard that the manager of factory. That is because in both Europe and Japan the people understand the power of making a product. That factory creates good paying jobs not only for it's employees, but also it's material supplies, its service providers, etc.

When a factory shuts down this can be an economic disaster for the local economy.

Here is an excerpt for the L.A. Times

Importance of manufacturing

Average manufacturing job pays $5,000 more than the average service job

Upward mobility for under-skilled workers

For every one manufacturing job, .5 more jobs are created - the highest multiplier of any sector

High paying jobs evaporated with the closing of Lockheed Martin, General Motors and Hughes Aircraft facilities in the early 0s(L.A. Times, 00)

ʏ

(California, 00)

" .....the Milken Institute provides a new foundation of understanding for a sector of our economy that literally sustains and enhances millions of lives - and yet is widely misunderstood and significantly at risk."

.....an example, for every job created in the state's manufacturing sector, an additional .5 jobs are created in other associated sectors. By comparison, it would require more than six times as many service jobs to create a similar standard of economic growth.

.......... also highlights manufacturing's seldom-considered social significance, including its vital importance to California's emerging diverse population. Specifically, the report details how the manufacturing sector is a reliable opportunity for unskilled workers, allowing them to climb the economic ladder and achieve a better future. (Milken Institute,00)

In conclusion, the state of California is waking up to its loss of manufacturing jobs and is trying to find a way to stem the losses and eventually regain some.

It would be a good thing for all of America to wake up to the facts of having that manufacturing plant in your town is usually a darn good thing!

In July, the British government was offering thousands of Afghan asylum seekers up to £,500 as an inducement to return home voluntarily. And it made clear that the IOM would be involved in the process. But how voluntary is voluntary? How philanthropic are such policies? And should NGOs be co-operating with the IOM? As the organisation opens its first London office, the European NoBorder network, which has been monitoring the activities of the International Organisation for Migration, warns anti-racists in Britain what is about to happen here and asks them to join October protests which will be taking place across Europe.

After piloting, from a Brussels office, a project to return refused asylum seekers from the UK, the organisation deemed the removal of 40 people so successful that a full-scale operation has now been launched here. The IOM has quickly established a number of voluntary return schemes and it also accommodates Home Office seminars in countries as far as Kazakhstan, Kirgystan or Tajikistan on topics such as preventing illegal migration or the use of fraudulent documents. Such schemes either rely on co-operation with the Home Office directly or with academics or NGOs like Refugee Action. Some partners have a record of supporting asylum seekers and refugees, as Refugee Action does, or lobbying for womens rights. At first glance, some of these programmes, such as supporting victims of female trafficking, assisting those without funds to return home and so on appear perfectly worthy. But are they? Alarm bells began to ring a year ago when the Roma National Congress exposed the crucial role the IOM played in expelling the Roma from Western Europe. We took a closer look at the IOM, its history, politics and policies.

Global migration management

The IOM, which currently has member governments with another 6 with observer status, was founded on a US initiative in 151 and expressed cold war politics and the Truman doctrine. Initially named the (Provisional) Inter-Governmental Committee on Migration in Europe, it was based on economic assumptions, in contrast to the humanitarian principles of the UNHCR. Unlike the UN, which is based on international law and agreements, the ICME/IOM is a membership organisation and is therefore not accountable to any democratically elected body but only to its member states. Although international organisations such as UNHCR, UNICEF and the WHO have observer status, as do international trade union, religious and welfare organisations, they have no voting power. Since 18, the IOM has been transformed into a transnational agency for the global management of migration within the economic framework of the New World Order. Its individual programmes reflect the neo-liberal ideology which rationally selects the useful workers in IT, medicine and construction and treats autonomous migrants, sans papiers and their support networks as public enemies.

A Night of Cocaine

Have you ever wondered what it was like to try cocaine? About a month ago, I was wondering how it would feel to be on snow. A few of my friends were doing it quite often; being around them all the time it struck my curiosity. I had been saying I was going to try it but kept chickening out. This went on for about a month. Finally, on New Years Eve I decided to go ahead and do it. I couldn't believe what I was missing out on. My friends never told me how good it was. After that it started to become an everyday occurrence. That's when I knew I had to get out. If I didn't stop (hypothetically speaking) I would probably be stealing money from my parents right now or selling my possessions so I could afford my new addiction. This is the diary of the night I tried cocaine.

It's around 0 p.m. on December 1, 00 my friend Bam is sitting directly in front of me on my bed. Bam is around six-foot, he has wavy dirty blond hair, blue-green eyes, built, and lightly tanned skin. We both have a small strip of glass, a straw, and some cocaine. We are all ready to start, and both begin to cut two small sized lines of snow. Bam and I took our straws and without a second thought, we inhaled the lines. Immediately I began to feel more energetic, mentally alert, I was also quite sensitive to light and sound. I was suddenly more self-confident then usual. It is now around 1005p.m I'm definitely still feeling the effects, although I'm in the comedown stage. We then decide that it was time to try another few lines. As we cut two medium sized lines, I begin to get a strong urge to smoke a cigarette. I decide that after I finish my cigarette I will snort the two lines. The next two lines should give me a high-dosed cocaine experience. Soon after I finish my last line I begin to get a warm and fuzzy feeling all over my entire body, as if I were floating. You know the feeling; it is similar to the feeling of the second wind you get when you stay up all night. The high intensifies for a minute or two, then levels out. I'm mildly euphoric, but very stimulated. It is a distinct stimulation, more like amphetamines than caffeine, but definitely different. There is a warm tingly sensation in my nose. I have a strong urge to smoke another cigarette.

It is now 105pm and I am feeling an inconspicuous decrease in the high. As I sit back to enjoy it, I ask Bam how he is feeling, he said, " the urge to do more coke is overwhelming, can we please do another line?" By this time, I felt very calm. The peak wore off gradually but not evenly. I was alternating between feeling comedown effects and peak effects. The thought of doing more coke pops into my mind but then fades and comes back again. We just finished our last line of coke. I decided to lay back and close my eyes I could have sworn that I was floating. At this point, I am beginning to hallucinate. It is somewhat scary yet fun at the same time. It is now around 1100p.m. and the thoughts of doing more coke are a little more frequent and longer, but nowhere near irresistible. Being aware of the craving seems to make it go away. The stimulation is still quite strong, and more amphetamine- like, however it is beginning to fade into the post-peak mellowness of cocaine.

My dry mouth is becoming more noticeable. My lungs feel somewhat grimy from smoking so many cigarettes. We snorted a few drops of warm water to help clear out our nasal passages since they felt somewhat clogged from doing coke all night. If I snort or breathe deeply I can still taste coke in the back of my throat. I now feel calm and quiet. I don't really feel bad, but I feel physically worn out and mentally tired. It's not a bad thing though. We decided to smoke bowl of weed to help us relax, and take a few shots of vodka before going to bed to help counteract the stimulant effect that will keep us from sleeping. Although we will not be able to sleep for a few more hours it still helps a lot.

In conclusion, this was a very enjoyable experience. I would have to say that cocaine is my drug of choice. Since the night of my cocaine, experience it had became an everyday occurrence. I then realized that I needed to quit all drugs, because I didn't want to have to depend on a drug to make me feel normal. In addition, I would as I stated earlier probably be selling all my things to help pay for the drugs, and I just didn't want it to come down to that. If I hadn't tried blow I feel like I would have tried something less extreme and would not realize that it was getting out of control. Then it would have escalated to something more and I would be in to deep to stop on my own. Therefore, I am glad I did it, but I won't be doing it again.

Legal Studies Essay - Draft

Children's rights are a serious and controversial legal issue, involving young people and the law. This issue is also made very unclear because of the different or uncertain interpretation of what a child is (because definitions tend to vary from country to country, or from industry to industry). Another thing to note is some of the laws which are meant to protect children are unknown by the majority of the public, industrial, and or commercial sector, and the courts or institutions that are designed to administer young people's rights are inappropriate, confusing, or ineffective.

Since its adoption in 18 after more than sixty years of promotion, the United Nations Convention on the rights of the Child has been authorised by more governments (all except Somalia and the US) than any other human rights instrument.

Although almost % of the world's children live in countries whose governments have committed themselves to the UN (United Nations) International Convention on the Rights of the Child this still has not stop child exploitation and other types of abuses of children which infringe on the child's rights, which has been exposed by the UN reporters and working groups who monitor countries compliance with the international standards of human rights.

Help with essay on Children's Rights

The definition of a child is as follows, "A child is a person and not a sub person over whom the parent has an absolute possessory interest. The term child does not necessarily mean minor but can include adult children as well as adult nondependent children. Children are generally afforded the basic rights embodied by the Constitution, born within a marriage or not, but excludes children not yet born. There are both state and federal sources of child-rights law," (www.law.cornell.edu/topics/childrens_rights.html).

One of the many issues involved with children's rights is child labor which has been around since the last century, in countries throughout the world. The main types of child labor were in mines, cotton mills, industrial factories, domestic services, and shops, while in other places these exploitations were mainly in agricultural areas such as farming, herding, and fishing.

Trade unions in Europe began to raise the issue of child labor during the 1th centaury and ultimately began to call for a ban on child labor in factories and other areas which could be hazardous to their health, as well as the trade unions human rights organizations also helped join the fight against child labor.

Nowadays in most industrial countries including Australia, child labor has been very marginal but has never entirely disappeared, especially in the clothing and footwear industries which in recent times account for the majority of child labor cases.

There are a variety of reasons why children have to work these include population pressures, rapid urbanization, lack of access to schools, famine and armed conflicts, but by far the most common reason is poverty. However, in terms of a company point of view child labor is caused by pressure from other companies to become more competitive, and win a greater domestic or international share in the market. The common company perception of a child is "a docile and a source of labor, which may be enough to give a company a slight edge over competitors or provide an opportunity for companies to increase their profits." (Stop Child Labor Campaign Document, International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.)

Child abuse is another contentious issue mainly because of the wide area it covers, which includes physical and mental abuse, mistreatment of a child (which in itself can be widely defined) as well as sexual and emotional abuse.

Child abuse has a huge impact on children's mental and even physical development, and one of the legislations brought in to prevent child abuse is the mandatory reporting of child abuse which is in the Victorian Children and Young Persons Act of 18 which states "A person referred to in any of the paragraphs of sub-section (1C) … who, in the course of practicing his or her profession or carrying out the duties of his or her office, position or employment … forms the belief that a child is in need of protection on a ground referred to in paragraph (c) or (d) of section 6 must notify (the Health and Community Services Department) …" and by the end of 14 the legislation would extend to all groups within Victoria.

The effect this legislation has had with regards to the reports of child abuse are that there has been a 5% increase of state wide child abuse cases in Victoria as of the rd of March 14, and latter that same year this increased to 55%, which is seven times the amount that had been anticipated by HCS prior to this legislation being introduced. These figures were also able to be broken down into categories of child abuse which were as follows

Emotional abuse +5%

Physical abuse +48%

Sexual abuse +5%

Neglect +1%

This shows the legislature has been effective with regards to the reporting of child abuse, which therefore as been able to set a precedents in the courts as to how issues such as this will be dealt with and what sort of punishment is to be given to the perpetrator. As a result this legislation has potentially reduced child abuse in the community.

When children's rights have been breeched there are a number of consequences that could take place for the child, and one of these is the resorting to criminal activity, which could bring them into contact with the police and the Juvenile Court.

The Juvenile Court's function is so not just administer the law but also to provide rehabilitation to young offenders so they will not re-offend, and provide care correction and guidance to young offenders, as well as punishment.

Another important implementation of children's rights is a court system which is able to not just punish offenders but also to rehabilitate, and provide guidance for them as well, and considering that children are certainly in need of this it is important that this is done probably, because in some cases child abuse or other infringements on children's rights has led them to commit certain crimes in the first place, and these issues would need to be dealt with first if the child is able to first recover from the ordeal, and then become a asset to the community he or she lives in, but if this is not address then the child will continue to end up in and out of goal, and eventually waste their live away.

The main difference between a Juvenile Court and an adult court is that the Juvenile Court has a much wider jurisdiction in terms of the offenses it can hear. In addition to its criminal jurisdiction, the Juvenile Court may deal with children of any age up to 18 in what are called care proceedings.

Proceedings are based on the idea that the child is in need of care, protection, or control because one of a number of conditions is satisfied. These conditions include neglect or assault by parents but also include the fact that the juvenile has committed an offense. A juvenile who commits an offense can come before the Juvenile Court either in criminal proceedings or in care proceedings, although the court may not take action in care proceedings unless satisfied that the juvenile is in need of care, protection, or control; the fact that an offense has been committed is not on its own sufficient enough.

This combination of two different roles in the juvenile court has been a source of difficulty and controversy for many years, particularly because the court in its criminal jurisdiction is required by law to have regard to the welfare of the child or young person and, if necessary to remove him/her from unsatisfactory surroundings for his/her own good, despite the nature of the offense which he/she might have committed. A juvenile can be removed from the care of his parents and possibly be required to reside in an institution (known as a community home), maybe even for a period of several years, and maybe even under conditions of security. The decisions made by the Juvenile Court can also be appealed to the Supreme Court

Although there have been numerous measures put in to stop the abuse and exploitation of Children this still happens, and one of the main reasons for this is because of the law regarding some issues of children's rights which is unclear and needs to be defined more precisely. Another change which should be taken into consideration is making sure that all countries are exactly or extremely close in their appliance and interpretation of the law with regards to all issues concerning children's rights, not just the issues which suits that country or government.

Communicating in the Classroom

1. Collect/Learn

Effective communication is necessary in the educational environment if the learning process is to take place. A dialogue must be established between the teachers and the students and the students among themselves if any learning is going to occur. As the title of this component states, this dialogue is present not only in verbal communication, but also in non-verbal gestures and nuances and through certain types of media. The book breaks down the three areas where communication is crucial as being in instruction, in the class climate, and in the classroom features. I am going to primarily focus on certain aspects of classroom instruction.

Class discussions should be an element of almost every lesson. They offer a quick and easy assessment, and depending upon the reaction of the students they can even determine the pace of the material being studied. If the class as a whole appears to not understand then a little reinforcement might be called for. Class discussions also serve as an excellent way to review a lesson or a unit prior to a big test. However, as most teachers know from experience, and as described in the textbook, true class discussions do not come about without some effort, and the effect of not having a true class discussion can often have a detrimental effect on the other students of the class.

Order custom research paper on Communicating in the classroom

True class discussions are ones in which every member of the class participates, and are not always limited to "immediate response" questions which the book calls "convergent questions." In our professional development class we modeled an example of a true class discussion. The method we used, which called for students to be graded on the quality of their participation by their peers, is effective in achieving many of the goals a teacher would strive for in a classroom.

First, it gives students incentive to speak out in class, and holds them accountable for the quality of their input. This is important in teaching students to participate in a group setting in a helpful and meaningful way. Some students may not realize that they can contribute positively; and others, who merely enjoy the sound of their own voice, may begin to restructure what they are saying in class.

Furthermore, this setting highly facilitates peer communication, something that can be improved in almost any classroom. If students are actively engaged in rating their peers then this means they have to create some type of standard by which they are judging the quality of the persons speech. This standard is something that they can then begin to use in judging the quality of their own participation, both in and out of the classroom.

When students do interact with one another is it plain to see the impact on non-verbal communication between them, so it must also be important in teacher-student relations as well. Students are very adept at picking up on non-verbal cues, even if they are doing so sub-consciously. Therefore, teachers must use this in a productive way. Non-verbal cues seem to be the best way to make your classroom a comfortable place, and to protect against favoritism.

When there is a rapport of effective communication in a classroom, it enhances the learning process incredibly. It is not a very easy thing to achieve, but effective teaching simply cannot take place unless that dialogue is present.

. Reflect

Because I primarily focused on 'communication in instruction' in my research portion, I decided to use another part of communication in the classroom for my application. This is the way that I feel my classroom can best be arranged. I am in a slightly larger class than most others, but my room is rectangular, not square.

The arrangement is not quite horseshoe, but is instead semi-circle.

I like it because it gives me a lot of room to roam around in front of the classroom, while at the same time forcing all students to look at me. I learned when trying cases that you need to stay mobile, and not hide behind a podium. I use that same philosophy in my classroom.

The rows are only three deep at the most, I can maneuver in between all the rows, and all the students can see the board and the overhead screen comfortably. I cannot stand having rows because all the eyes are straight ahead. When I am in front of the classroom, the angle of the desks forces all eyes on me, and the result has been very pleasing.

Theme of "Conjoined A Marriage Poem"

Whenever two people marry they have formed a relationship together. In order to have what is a comfortable marriage where there is not fighting, there is understanding, love, and communication, both sides have to give and take. In the poem "Conjoined" by Judith Minty, I feel that the women is writing the poem and she is talking about a terrible marriage. The woman is upset about her husband not seeing the fact that the marriage is not as pleasant as it seems.

When two people marry, they form a bond that needs to support the two of the. In the poem it starts out

"The onion in my cupboard, a monster, actually

Custom writing service can write essays on Conjoined

Two joined under one transparent skin

Each half-rounded, then flat and deformed

Where it pressed and grew against the other."

To me this is saying that once they got married the where joined as one. Once they where together for a while they became deformed. That is when the trouble started to show. It took a while but the bond that they have isn't like the one that shows on the outside. When you cover up something you are unable to see what is happening underneath it in the beginning. Just like under the skin of the onion, you are unable to see the layers beneath.

In the next stanza the poem talks about the two headed calf and Chang and Eng. I think she is trying to show that once you marry, you are connected. Her marriage was not the best which is why uses words like "accident" and "freaks." The fact that she uses Chang and Eng is interesting to me. Two twins conjoined at the abdomen. They each have their own wife and fathered their own children. They seemed to be able to live conjoined together with out fighting. Being married is similar in that you are living together and should be making decisions with the others welfare in mind.

The last stanza is asking the husband if he sees what she is writing about. "Do you feel the skin that binds us/ Together as we move, heavy in this house?" She is thinking that the husband is oblivious to the fact that she is miserable. I also think that she is thinking that the house is to small. She has no place that is her own, she has no say in the planning of their future as a single unit.

"To sever the muscle could free one,/ But the might kill the other." Changing the relationship will free the writer but kill her husband. When you live in denial and then suddenly the truth is put in front of you is hard, especially if you have been living that way for a while.

To end the poem she states "Ah, but men/ Don't slice onions in the kitchen, seldom see/ What is invisible. We cannot escape each other." She is the one that notices that the relationship is not working and the husband cannot see it. I wonder if she had talked to the husband about the fact that the marriage was not pleasant for her. The poem is about her side but I wonder what the husband thinks about it.
