My book is a biography about Harry Houdini. He was a famous magician. The book begins in Appleton, New York where he grew up. A boy named Enrich Weiss (Harry Houdini) was watching a magician's act. The magician did a trick with a bucket and coins. Enrich asked him how he did it, and the magician showed him. That day, Enrich learned what an illusion was. Suddenly his father came and took Enrich home. His father asked where he got the dime to get into the show. Enrich said he didn't pay, he just crawled under the ropes. So Enrich had to go and pay the man back. From this, he learned discipline and honesty from his father.

As Enrich got older, he did a lot of magic shows. He had goals (1) to amaze the crowds, () to take care of his mother, and () to get into the big acts. This is how Enrich Weiss achieved his goals. He amazed the crowds by escaping from handcuffs and escaping from ropes that his brother, Dash, tied around him. Enrich promised his father that he would take care of his mother when his father died. And he did. But, his main goal was go get into the big shows. Enrich Weiss got into every show that passed through Appleton. He eventually did shows in other states like Florida, Georgia, California, etc. There was a famous magician in Europe named Houdin who was very good at it. So, Enrich decided that his show name would be Harry Houdini. Enrich was married to a woman named Bess. She died suddenly of a illness. After she died, he worked harder than ever before. One day while he was studying magic in Milwaukee, he got a telephone call to perform in the big shows.

The war in Iraq 60 words

It is clear from what has been going on in the news that the public has very mixed feelings and thoughts about the war which is occurring in Iraq but has either the party for or the party against war looked at the good reasons for each case and can confidently say that one side is wrong?

By going to war with Iraq Tony Blair and President George Bush both hope that they will succeed in the removal of Saddam Hussein and free the Iraq people which would be a good thing but why can't we do this without going to war?

By going to war we are going to be killing hundreds of Iraq, British and American troops and civilians who are innocent as well as committing an illegal act as there is no united nations mandate for the war and we would be interfering with a sovereign nation.

Order custom research paper on War

Some people state that this war will reduce the amount of poverty in Iraq, but is that not a long-term problem they have to over-come rather than one in which we have to bomb and kill for?

Saddam Hussein is said to have weapons of mass destruction but he has let American weapon inspectors in and they have claimed not to have found anything, but if they had been given a longer time to search they have produced some results but they were rushed by the Americans to produce a report.

Out of the 0 UK solders killed throughout the campaign so far 18 were killed through accident, and in one case British pilots were killed by friendly fire from the Americans

Also there is concern about Turkish troops entering Iraq because if they come n contact with the Kurds there may be fighting between the two forces and causing more coalition deaths.

The fact that the Iraqis have started to set fire to oil wells the pollution caused by this could have major effects on the environment.

The attempt to assassinate Saddam is illegal under an American Treaty. President Ford stated that it would be illegal for anyone to attempt to assassinate an enemy leader this surly means that it is illegal in war or not.

The fact that the Coalition has started the issue of weapons of mass destruction is strange because the several countries within the UN including America and Great Britain sold these weapons to him. At the time what did we think he would use those weapon for?

Although Tony Blair feels it is his moral duty to protect the country against Iraq, why has he left the issue of Korea, which have shown the world that they do have and are willing to use weapons of mass destruction. Also the fact that he has ignored a large majority of the nation by not taking into account the large public out cry about the war!

I think France has played a major issue in this campaign, because if they had not been so determined to use there veto against the second revaluation then it would not have given the coalition an easy exit from going down the UN route because I think they knew that they did not have the nine vote required to pass the notion.

If Saddam is over thrown and we try to divide Iraq into the several cultures with in it then we could see more bloodshed as we witness in Yugoslavia and wars started over territory which showed us the worst case of genocide since the second world war.

By Steven McDonald

Continued incidents of misuse of the Internet on college campuses suggest that we need to reexamine our existing approaches to the problem. For the most part, colleges and universities have addressed misuses of the Internet as though it were an entirely new issue, where in reality it is simply a new form of the abuse of free speech and other misconduct. Computer users are engaging in the same kind of communication that the media is, and they are liable for the same laws and rules that the media is. Only a few students are actually aware of the laws about their activities on the Internet and those who do know the laws still think of the Internet as a place that is law free, or where they cannot get caught or in trouble. Laws are not completely settled but it is clear that the colleges and universities are not responsible for an illegal communication solely because they own the system through which that commutation flows. But, they will be responsible for the communication of college and university employees on the Internet. The more that colleges and universities try to regulate the content of the personal communications on their systems, the more likely they are to be expected to know what is going on. These schools should continue to enforce existing laws and policies in the context of the Internet. A new approach to the problem of the Internet misuse is educating the students about their legal responsibilities on the Internet. This approach has proved to be very successful.

Reflective Essay

My Grandpa's death has been the hardest thing that I have had to deal with so far in my young life. It was a terrible experience filled with hurt and confusion but I feel that I have gained some wisdom from this tragedy as well.

I was rushing out the door, because I was late for work, when the phone rang. I answered out of breath, and kind of angrily "Hello"

Custom writing service can write essays on Grandpa's Death

It was my Grandpa; he called to chat with my family and me. He called everyday while my Grandma was at work, because he would get lonely.

He said "Hey Punky, what are you up to?"

I smiled a little and replied "I'm sorry, I cannot talk Grandpa, I have to go, otherwise I will be late for work"

He answered back, with a little disappointment in his voice "alright, try not to work too hard", and I hung up the phone.

On my way to work I realized that my grandparents were leaving the next day to go to Ohio to visit my aunt. I felt kind of bad and a little sad because I did not speak with him and I would not be able to talk to him again for another two weeks. When I arrived at work, everything was busy. After all, I work at Dairy Queen, it was a blazing, hot summer day, and it seemed like everyone in the whole city wanted ice cream at that moment. I forgot about the phone call and went about my business. After work, I went home and relaxed. I took a shower and went on the internet. Finally I went to bed around 00 am. I was exhausted so as soon as my head hit the pillow, I fell fast asleep.

The loud ringing of the phone startled me out of a deep sleep. It was really dark in my room and I felt like I had been asleep for an eternity, but in reality I had only slept for an hour. I remember looking at the clock and it reading 5.The phone stopped ringing and I began to fall back asleep when I heard the door to my bedroom fling open and my mom, in a voice full of panic, yelled up to me

"Melissa, can you please get up, Grandpa just died", I yelled back "What?" and she replied in a desperate voice "please, get up"

My heart stopped that moment, I could not breathe. Somehow I got up and stumbled through the dark, managed to put some clothes on, and I ran downstairs. My mom, my siblings and I all got into the car.

My grandparents lived in Merrill Iowa, about 1 miles north of Sioux City. On the drive, I could see my mother's hands shaking on the steering wheel. Her face was pale and an eerie gray color. I had never seen her like that and it scared me. My brother and sister were sobbing in the back. But they were cries I had never heard before; sickening, like they couldn't breathe. It scared me, but I could not cry so I just sat there,

looking straight ahead, doubting the reality of it all. "It can't be true" I said to myself,

"My grandpa is too young, too full of life to die".

We finally arrived at their house, after what seemed like hours and hours of driving. The thoughts in my mind were scattered and unorganized; I couldn't maintain a single thought.

We pulled into my grandparents' driveway and I looked toward to the front of the house. The flashing amber lights from the ambulance and the police car hurt my eyes, and they seemed so far away. I remember thinking "Why are there so many people here?" We started up the sidewalk to the front of the house, everything was so quiet. I looked up at the front door, but I couldn't make myself go in, so I just ran.

I ran away, thinking that if I went fast enough, maybe it would all go away. That's when I let the tears go. I couldn't see anything, the whole world was blurry from the tears, but still I ran.

I was running as fast as I could, and then I remember falling. I didn't feel anything but the warm, gritty cement sidewalk against my face. I just laid there and sobbed. I yelled at the still humid air, screaming at the night, like it could help me. I was mad at first and then my anger turned into deep sadness.

Some time later, I heard my uncle calling my name so I walked back to my grandparents' house. By then, they had already taken my Grandpa away. I couldn't look at any of my relatives. It was too painful, especially seeing my Grandma so sad.

It was 500 in the morning when the pastor of my grandparents' church came to the house to pray with everyone. I remember it thundering outside, the lightening flashed and the rain poured down. As if the storm was imitating the emotions my family was going through.

The next day was the family's visitation with my grandpa's body. I couldn't go near the body; it made it too real then, to actually see him dead. The next few days I couldn't function at all. I hardly slept and when I was awake all I could do was cry. The funeral was the hardest thing I had to go through. It was the last goodbye, the last time I could actually physically be with my Grandpa.

Consequently, after his death I felt guilty for not talking to my grandpa when he called that day. I took the fact that he called just about every day for granted. I realize now that taking a little time out of my day to spend time with the people, whom I care about, can make a world of difference. I regret not talking to my grandpa that day; I just assumed that he would call back the next day.

In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Grandpa's Death, we are here to assist you. The three witches in Macbeth are introduced right at the beginning of the play. This indicates to me that Shakespeare is trying to portray that they are a powerful force in the play from the start and that they play a major and influential role in the play. They tell Macbeth three prophecies. That Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor, Thane of Glamis and King. These prophecies introduce Macbeth to ideas of greatness. The three witches add an element of supernatural and prophecy to the play, and they each have a familiar, such as Graymalkin and Paddock. They are described as having beards but looking vaguely human. I believe they are inhuman creatures, neither man or woman, but 'instruments of darkness.' These three "secret, black, and midnight hags", hardly distinguishable as humans, serve a huge dramatic part in the play. The role of the three weird sisters in the play is to generate imagery, mood, and atmosphere and to serve as the reason that will bring Macbeth, Thane of Glamis, to his downfall.

The witches can foretell the future, they add temptation, and influence Macbeth, but they cannot control his destiny. Macbeth creates his own misery when he is driven by his own sense of guilt. This causes him to become insecure as to the reasons for his actions, which in turn cause him to commit more murders. He constantly reveals his innermost thoughts. The witches offer great persuasion, but it is in the end, each individual's decision to fall for the temptation, or to be strong enough to resist the witches captivation. Sometimes it is thought that the witches have the ability to reverse the natural order of things. When the witches tell him the vision, Macbeth is pleased with what he hears for he 'Shall never be vanquished' and 'none of women born shall harm Macbeth.' Macbeth's mind is overridden by greed and ambition, he becomes more and more evil so he doesn't think about what the prophecies truly meant. This shows that the witches are very influential once they have chosen their prey. Banquo is surprised that Macbeth isn't ecstatic at the prophecy, and asks the witches why they have no prophecy for him. The witches make important predictions for Banquo, as lesser but greater, less happy but happier than Macbeth. They also say his children will become Kings. When Banquo says 'The earth hath bubbles, as the water has, / And these are of them. Whither are they vanish'd?' this to me means that Banquo is unsure whether these witches belong to the physical or the supernatural world. Banquo is cautious of the witches, because evil can sometimes seem tempting. 'So foul and fair a day', which are Macbeth's first words in Act , Scene echo the witches' last lines in Act , Scene .

The play begins on a dark, barren place in Scotland where the witches plan to meet after the battle, which we later find is a rebellion in Scotland, and to the witches, the outcome is known. When shall we three meet again? / In thunder, lightning, or in rain?", says the first witch. They make plans to find Macbeth upon the Heath, and exit chanting "Fair is foul, and foul is fair / Hover through the fog and filthy air." At the very beginning, the atmosphere that has been created is contributed to the effect of just the witches' presence. However, the settings for the scenes help considerably to portray the darkness and gloom. In the following scene, it is in fact the given descriptions of the environment that create the first perception of evil [A desert place. Thunder and Lightning. Enter three witches.] The witches in the very first lines of the play foreshadowed all this imagery because the atmosphere is dark and evil. Because the witches show up at seemingly correct parts in accordance with the major events, these two lines confirm the setting and mood, which characterizes Macbeth. The first witch speaks the following lines "When shall we three meet again/ In thunder, lightning, or in rain." The atmosphere is further expressed with the ending lines of the scene, with references to Paddock, a toad, which they worship, and the murky environment. These hideous images further make the atmosphere more revolting. "Paddock calls. Anon! Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air."

In Act d, scene , in which the witches appear we see how their power is limited. One of the witches asks the sailor's wife can she have a chestnut, but she refuses to give her a chestnut. Because she refuses, they make the sailors life hell when he's out sailing on his boat, by creating massive wave storms. Although they do not have the power to kill him, they just cause him misery. In the film by Roman Polanski this scene is cut out. I think he does this because he wants the witches to seem like they are all powerful. If Polanski included this scene it would spoil the whole image he is trying to create of the witches and would show that the witches' powers have a barrier.

When Lady Macbeth receives the news of the prophecies in Act d, Scene 5 in a letter from her husband, she is determined the prophecy of him becoming king will come true, but she is worried that Macbeth won't have the guts to kill for the position. "They met me in the day of success and I have learned by the perfectest report, they have more in them than mortal knowledge." This, in Macbeth's letter to his wife, writes of the witches and has jumped to a conclusion; he doesn't know for sure that the witches have supernatural knowledge. It's true that moments after they hail Macbeth as Thane of Cawdor, Angus and Ross deliver the news that he has been named Thane of Cawdor, but that news wasn't a secret. The witches could have picked it up before Angus and Ross showed up.

Macbeth's ambition is deep within him and because of this, both the witches and Lady Macbeth are able to manipulate him to evil. It is this ambition that gets him into so much trouble initially. Macbeth is portrayed to have retained his own free will, given that his actions are inspired by Lady Macbeth. If the evil that Macbeth is going to commit cannot be directly carried out by the witches' command over him, then how will he be compelled to murder Duncan and the many more that follow? Everyone is responsible for his own destiny. This is an important theme in this tragedy. Macbeth chooses to gamble with his soul and when he does this it is only him who chooses to lose it. He is responsible for anything he does and must take total liability for his actions. Macbeth is the one who made the final decision to carry out his actions. He made these final decisions and continued with the killings. I think the three witches, knowing of his ambitions, could persuade Macbeth to evil, but they could not compel him to it; by a vague representation of the foreseen future they could tempt him to choose an apparent before a real good. I don't think the witches are of all power but like capitalizing on the weakness of others. Macbeth falls into this trap and someone else may have not been so weak. They enjoy preying on Macbeth because they like to exploit his weaknesses, like seeing him being destroyed and enjoy watching his high and mighty title collapsing in front of him.

Set in England on the Yorkshire Moors in the 1th century, Emily Bronts novel Wuthering Heights is the story of lovers who try to withstand the separation of social classes and keep their love alive.

The main characters, Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff grew up on a middle class English countryside cottage called Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff was the servant and Catherine the daughter of the owner of Wuthering Heights. As children, Heathcliff and Catherine were the best of friends, a friendship which turned to love with the coming of age. Catherine married a man of the upper class society and was forced to end her love affair with Heathcliff. Catherine was happy in her marriage at first but later became overwhelmed with her desire to be with Heathcliff. She was forced to distinguish the difference between her love for Heathcliff and her love for her new life with money. In the end, Catherine Earnshaw¹s husband, Edgar Linton, died and Catherine finally realized that money and social class were not as fulfilling as her desire to have passion in her life, a desire which could only be met by Heathcliff. Throughout the book, Catherine tried to discover who she was and what exactly she wanted. In chapters 6 and 7, Catherine thought that she had finally discovered who she was and what she wanted. These chapters are the pinnacle of the story. It was the point in the book where the social classes were determined and Catherine¹s love for Heathcliff was forced to be supressed. Heathcliff and Catherine were still young and playing together innocently one day. This was before Catherine became a member of the upperclass society and realized that she could not love Heathcliff because of his social class. Heathcliff and Catherine wandered beyond the secure gates of Wuthering Heights to a large estate owned by Edgar Linton called Thrushcross Grange. They spyed through one of the windows and were caught by Linton. Heathcliff managed to escape in time but Catherine injured herself and was taken in by Linton¹s servants. Catherine stayed at Thrushcross Grange while Heathcliff return! ed to Wuthering Heights. She stayed at the estate for several weeks being nursed by Linton and his servants. The time she spent with Linton caused her to fall in love with him, causing her to permanently be separated from Heathcliff and the lower class life she used to know. Catherine became so absorbed in her new life that she forgot about Heathcliff and the pain he was feeling, until she realizes that there was something missing in her life. She finally knew that in order for her to become a whole person, she needed to be with her other half, Heathcliff.

Although there are many different important messages in this novel, the main value is the changes which occur in and between the characters. It is a love story which deals with the social classes and the supression of true feelings. Wuthering Heights is a tragedy because of what happens when the characters finally discover what was truely meant to be. Wuthering Heights bestowes a moral value onto the reader of discrimination and true heart-break.
